Hreflang

Hreflang annotations tell search engines which URL serves which language or region, such as es-MX versus es-ES or en. Correct hreflang reduces duplicate-content confusion and helps Mexican searchers land on the page meant for them.

Implementations fail when return tags are missing, locale codes are wrong, or canonicals conflict with hreflang. Audit with crawlers and manual spot checks. Include x-default thoughtfully for users outside listed locales.

Outreach teams must link to the locale they intend to strengthen. A Spanish campaign that cites the US English URL wastes signal. Put the correct absolute URL in every brief.

Hreflang does not replace localization quality. Machine-translated thin pages with perfect annotations still disappoint users on google.com.mx. Combine technical correctness with genuine Mexican Spanish content and local proof points.
